American Gladiators. From the first time I saw this show, I was instantly hooked. Not being athletic or very into sports, I'm not sure why it gave me such a hard on, but it did. Maybe it was the outlandish, cartoony, cheesiness of it. Maybe it was the fact that it was like a big competitive game show. Or maybe it was the fact that that they played the kind of games I would have probably made up in my back yard if the show hadn't already made them up for me. I love game shows. I've loved them ever since I was a little kid. I used to tell people I wanted to be a game show host when I grew up, inspired by Guy Smiley of Sesame Street no doubt. When I was in elementary school, I remember vividly getting off the bus, sitting down with my snack, and watching Press Your Luck and Scrabble on the USA network. As dorky as all of that is, it's all true.
I'm not really sure what it is exactly that attracts me to game shows, but I find them to be utterly fascinating and extremely entertaining. Some of the weirdest and funniest things I've ever seen in all of my nearly 23 years have come from game shows. There's something about winning money that seems to make people lose all their inhibitions and be willing to make a complete ass out of themselves on television. Which brings me to my possibly number one favorite/most hilarious game show clip ever, of my girl Betty Sue.
Check this out.
